Like many of the 7000 plus breweries out there today, Kros Strain Brewing (pronounced Cross Strain) was formed by a couple homebrewers that grew to love the hobby enough to ditch their previous college degrees and switch their career paths to the brewing industry. In their previous careers, Bobby Kros (pronounced cross) worked as an engineer and Scott Strain came from a legislative background.
Brewing has been in their blood since at least 2006. They spent many years as homebrewers perfecting the craft, brewing for friends and family, entering competitions and even winning a few! They decided to go full bore into the beer industry in 2013 when we began brewing for a brewery. It was while learning the ropes as actual brewers that they began to realize they had similar goals and ideas.
After some time and much thought, they developed a plan for a packaging brewery in the Omaha area. After spending over a year raising funds for the brewery they signed a lease, began architechture, and started construction in January 2017.

Double IPA - 9.4 %abv - 94 ibu
A Double IPA that is light in body and packed full of all the delicious hoppiness you need. Brewed with a simple 2-row and Wheat Malt base and dry hopped with delicious Simcoe and Amarillo hops, you’ll get tons of citrus fruit, pine, with light berry notes.
German-Style Helles Lager - 4.8% abv - 16 ibu
Named after Hell Creek, which runs through Omaha and into the Papio creek behind the brewery, this easy drinking lager is perfect for a summer day or anytime you are looking for that traditional taste. With some light malt sweetness and no bitterness, Helles Creek is the perfect compliment to just about everything.
Amber Ale - 4.3% abv - 25 ibu
Dark, yet light and easy drinking, this amber ale is a bit roastier than a typical amber ale. It's actually closer to a roasty version of an English-Style Mild ale. It doesn’t really fit into neat style descriptions, but it does drink well. Think light notes of chocolate with coffee.
IPA - 6.2% abv - 62 ibu
Drink within 3 months!
This hazy juicy treat is packed with a ton of aromatic hops at the end of the boil and dry-hopped with a round of citra and mosaic hops. This IPA is hugely aromatic with little bitterness and a light body. You’ll experience notes of grapefruit, mango, tropical goodness.

"They (Bobby Kros and Scott Strain) shared with us their vision of Kros Strain Brewing not only as a producer of great beer, but also as a place and brand that celebrates the vibrancy of life. Nebraska, as they see it, is a land of family-oriented cyclists, dog-lovers, tailgaters and hunters. Hard working people who love to get outside and have fun." - CODO DESIGN
OMAHA WORLD HEARLD VISITS KROS STRAIN BREWING
Two sides in beer battle renew efforts to settle how Nebraska's craft brews are distributed.
Aaron Goldfarb, writer for Esquire, Playboy, The Daily Beast, PUNCH, First We Feast, Serious Eats, Draft Magazine writes this article in the online feature article for October:
"Formerly employed at the U.S. Senate offices in Washington, D.C., a Mr. Beer kit gift from his wife Michelle (on Valentine’s Day if we’re being honest) led to him falling in love with the hobby.
“Brewing on the stove in our one-bedroom apartment was the beginning of the unforeseen start of our future,” she explains. “That one brew lead to him brewing a beer for our wedding. Looking back I can only imagine how it tasted.”
From there, he started going to the D.C. Homebrewers club and eventually switching to his own jerry-rigged homebrew kit which he used on the driveway of their Maryland townhouse “
The neighbors were quite concerned with the safety of ‘what we were up to,” Michelle jokes. Eventually he took a side-job at 3 Star Brewing while taking a yearlong online brewing program from Siebel. Homesick after six years in D.C., the Strains moved back to Omaha where Scott quickly became a cellarman then brewer at Nebraska Brewing Co.
Along with fellow co-worker Bobby Kros, who had been a mechanical engineer at a nuclear power company, they decided to create Kros Strain in January of 2017. Today it’s a 10,000 square foot, 15 barrel system. Their handsomely-labeled beers include such flagships as Helles Creek, an easy-sipping lager, and Fairy Nectar, an easy-drinking IPA. The Strains still keep that little Mr. Beer keg as a memento.
Milwaukee Magazine - names supajuice a top ten beer of 2017
(for non Milwaukee beers)
"It has juicy citrus flavor and is extremely easy to drink, which is unusual for a big IPA that carries a hefty 9.4% ABV. The brewing scene in Nebraska is exploding and that’s a good thing." - Dan Murphy
